Previous Five Head-to-Head Matches (All Competitions):

Manchester City and Brighton have had a relatively balanced run in their last five meetings, with City winning twice, Brighton once, and the other two ending in draws. Both sides will look to gain an edge this weekend, though they approach the match with differing injury concerns and squad updates.
Brighton Team News
Brighton received a boost when Carlos Baleba came through unscathed against Everton. His half-time substitution raised initial injury fears, but head coach Fabian Hürzeler clarified it was a tactical decision.
In attack, Hürzeler was forced to turn to veteran Danny Welbeck against Everton after Georginio Rutter sustained a minor training injury. The manager downplayed the severity, suggesting Rutter should be fit to return against Manchester City.
Manchester City Team News
Manchester City are gradually regaining key players. Rodri featured off the bench against Tottenham, though he is not expected to be fully ready for a starting role until after the international break. Even limited minutes from him, however, provide City with a major lift.
Phil Foden also made his return from injury with a substitute appearance and may be in contention to start against Brighton. On the defensive side, Rayan Aït-Nouri is set to miss out after suffering an ankle injury against Spurs, while Joško Gvardiol remains a doubt as he continues his recovery.
Predicted Starting Lineups

Brighton Lineup Notes
Brighton will be hopeful that Georginio Rutter can return to lead the line after missing the Everton match. His presence would give the Seagulls an important focal point in attack. In defence, captain Lewis Dunk is expected to partner Jan Paul van Hecke, with the pair tasked with the daunting challenge of containing Erling Haaland and City’s attacking rotations. In midfield, Carlos Baleba is likely to start and provide the blend of composure and energy that Brighton rely on to transition into attack.

Manchester City Lineup Notes
After their 2-0 defeat to Tottenham at the Etihad, Pep Guardiola may look to tweak his approach against Brighton. City’s starting XI in that game was the youngest the club has fielded in nearly 15 years, and Guardiola could turn to experience to steady things. Bernardo Silva is a strong candidate to return, while Matheus Nunes may also be restored to the starting lineup to add control and ball progression on the right-hand side.
At the back, the absence of Rayan Aït-Nouri opens up a spot at left-back. With Joško Gvardiol still doubtful, Nathan Aké looks the most likely option to step into that role.
Match Preview
Both sides come into this match needing a response. Brighton are still searching for their first Premier League win of the season after two opening matches without a victory, while Manchester City will be eager to bounce back from their defeat to Tottenham last weekend.
For Pep Guardiola, the task remains embedding his core principles into a young and evolving squad. That process naturally brings challenges, and City’s performance against Spurs showed some of those growing pains. John Stones’ slip allowed Tottenham in for the opener, while goalkeeper James Trafford’s misjudged pass gifted the second.
Tottenham’s pressing game caused City significant problems, and Brighton are likely to employ a similar approach to unsettle Trafford and the back line when building out from the back. Trafford’s distribution is under scrutiny, and if Guardiola keeps faith in him, the goalkeeper will need to show composure on the ball. City’s staff will no doubt have spent the week working on decision-making and cleaner buildup play.
City did fashion chances against Tottenham but failed to convert. More concerning was their lack of response after falling two goals behind, registering only two shots on target in the second half. That inability to sustain pressure is something they will want to correct here.
Brighton, on the other hand, tend to channel much of their play down the right with Yankuba Minteh as a key outlet. The presence of Nathan Aké at left-back would give City a solid defensive option to counter that threat. At the same time, Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye troubled Brighton’s midfield and defence last weekend, which underlines how a creative, direct player like Rayan Cherki, if involved, could pose problems. Likewise, the presence of Jérémy Doku for City could cause Brighton similar difficulties on the opposite flank.
Betting Tips
Pick: Manchester City to win
Odds:

I expect Manchester City to return to winning ways and head into the international break on a high. Brighton, while organized, are not currently in the form or at the quality level that Tottenham showed when they managed to beat City last weekend.
One of the key matchups that gives me confidence is Erling Haaland against Lewis Dunk. Dunk remains a reliable and experienced Premier League defender, bringing leadership and structure to Brighton’s back line. However, at 33 years of age, he faces a difficult task against a younger, stronger, and highly motivated Haaland. That battle feels decisive, and I see Haaland giving City the edge.
